Opening of new laboratories in Cologne with 14 new employees

With help of many hands the laboratory in Düsseldorf has been moved to new laboratories in Cologne. By opening the European Custom Sequencing Centre in Cologne we have more than doubled the capacity of the labs in Düsseldorf.

The new location provides sequencing technology on 420m² and a friendly ambience for our employees. The existing team has considerably grown. We are happy that 14 well-trained staff members have started their jobs some months ago which will now actively support the team. Further positions will be created within the following months.

The new labs help us to extend our sequencing capacity. Cologne as a central location in Europe provides a quick and direct connection to the airport – and to our clients.

New Kid on the Block

Phew…

Our labs worked quite hard in the last few days in order to manage the high run on LIGHTrun.

Since only a few days GATC Biotech provides the new LIGHTrun, the most convenient single read sequencing service. LIGHTrun makes everything much easier, less complicated and so quick – our customers are obviously pleased!

NEW about it: You send us the premix of DNA and primer.

Just order your barcodes, mix DNA and primer, attach the barcodes to the premix tubes and go!

Get three sequencing barcodes for free www.gatc-biotech.com/lightrun!

Puh…

The barcode labels need to be affixed to the tubes in a certain way in order to be processed in our labs.

Every day we receive interesting variations of creatively attached barcodes – but unfortunately incorrectly attached barcodes have to be reattached by our lab-team. For this reason our staff asks for your assistance!

When sequencing your samples the tubes are positioned with the open caps at the back of the tuberack. The tuberack is then loaded into the robot and each barcode is scanned.

The scanner can only read the barcode if the label is affixed around the circumference of the tube. Here the barcode needs to be centered at the front of the tube.

You will do us a big favor if you affix the barcode as described to the tube.

Thank you very much for your help!

We wish you wish you a merry Christmas time.

Your GATC-Team

--------------------------

New sample requirements

29.09.2011,

We adjusted our sample requirements, added primer conditions and recommendations for sample delivery!

Illumina just released a new version of its TruSeq DNA and RNA Sample Prep kits which feature 24 unique indexes. The kits enable the pooling of up to 24 samples per lane, which is just perfect for the sequencing of e.g., large numbers of small viral or prokaryote genomes while greatly reducing costs! According to our contact person at Illumina they are already available for order and we should receive the first kits in a couple of weeks. These are great news, as we are already kind of awaiting those kits. Especially since by using the TruSeq v3 Cluster and SBS kits we have been able to tremendously increase our HiSeq 2000 data output and data quality and now produce about 600 gigabases per run.
Please contact us for an offer.

Looking forward to receive your request,
Heike
